At Sharkey, Howes & Javer, we have formal Investment Committee meetings. Every two weeks, we discuss recent market trends, the economy and strategize for the future.
Within each of these meetings, Larry Howes provides a very interesting and detailed report on the economy; questions are raised and insightful conversations pursue.
We have decided to open these internal economic discussions up to our clients by creating a new “series” where we record the economic portion of the investment meetings, and invite you to listen along with us.
The current audio was recorded in our meeting last Monday, December 8th. Please note that this was prior to last week’s market selloff, due to the ongoing decline in oil prices, and this will be addressed in next week’s economic discussion.
Please check the volume on your computer and have your headphones ready. We look forward to hearing what you think in the comments section below!
This is great, thanks for sharing. Need to be focused to absorb the info (guess that’s more of a challenge for this old retired person) but like the content and the length. Main speaker was very clear & well spoken.
Just a couple comments by way of feedback:
– I could hear most of the folks asking questions but not always and the one woman speaking came across very muted. Don’t know your microphone situation but maybe make sure everyone is speaking directly into the speaker. Or at least repeat the question so we have the context in which to set the response.
– I think I was following the “finance world lingo” pretty good. But some of the initials on the chart I was forgetting what they stood for like “CBOE” and “OTC”.
Good job & look forward to the next edition!

Thank you for your feedback, Vickie! These are great suggestions. This first recording was a bit of a trial run, so we’ll definitely make sure you can hear all of the advisors’ questions next time. Also, I really appreciate your suggestion regarding the “financial world lingo.” Sometimes it’s easy to assume everyone knows what we’re talking about when we live and breathe finance. We will work on better defining some of the terminology moving forward.
In the meantime, “CBOE” stands for the Chicago Board Options Exchange, and is the world’s largest options market. An “OTC” is an over-the-counter market, which is primarily used to trade bonds, currencies, derivatives and structured products. In an OTC market, participants trade with one another via a dealer network rather than on a centralized exchange.
Hope this helps, and thanks again for your comment! Please let us know if you have any further questions.
